Fire on the Desert Sands

A romance/adventure novel by Julianna M. Kodis and Anthony R. Candela

Around 14,000 years ago, a wet period that lasted for nearly eight millennia transformed the dry Sahara into a second Garden of Eden. Traces of its ancient inhabitants, including those occupying the land that is now Libya, have been grist for the mill for modern archeologists, including Desiree.

There is danger there. Various factions in a divided country still fight to dominate certain portions of the land. They fear that scientists will unearth information about the ancient inhabitants and the land itself, both above and below, that will upset the status quo of the region.

Still, Desiree will go there to seek out this information. In the process, she will risk her life in order to complete her mission: to shed light on the civilization that lived in the Green Sahara and to fulfill her destiny, to uncover secrets about the origins of the human race. In the midst of the fire on the desert sands, she will find love. More important, she will find herself.

Description of the cover for blind and visually impaired readers (by Leonore Dvorkin, editor):
In a mainly orange–colored desert landscape, a beautiful young red–haired woman and a brown–haired man with a short beard lean against the front of a gray Jeep, looking off into the distance. The woman’s arms are propped up on the man’s right shoulder. Her loose brown garment reveals her bare right leg. The man is wearing a tan safari hat and a khaki shirt over a close–fitting, dark green shirt that shows his impressive chest muscles. He’s wearing pale blue jeans and is holding a large black rifle pointing at the ground. Behind them in the distance are some low green bushes. The cloudless sky is pale blue. The title letters are in dark red–brown at the top of the cover, and the authors’ names are in black below the title. The font is an all–caps style. The back cover shows a vast, red–brown desert scene at sunset.
