It's important to understand how technology helps visually impaired people because it'll show us how much we're positively affecting their lives and how we can make it even better.
Being someone who has a visual impairment, I, Anthony Candela, know how different and challenging life can be for people like me. Although my disability didn't stop me from writing a dystopian novel about technology (check out my book Vision Dreams, A Parable), I understand that situations could greatly vary from person to person. The challenges of being blind are still unique to each individual, after all.
Fortunately, our technological advancements have brought many benefits for both the blind and visually impaired folks. Today, we'll be discussing how technology has given valuable aid to many of us and how they're making our lives better!
Assistive Technology for the Visually Impaired Makes Us Do Lots of Things
People who have vision loss can now compose documents, surf the Internet, and send and receive emails, among other things, because of current technology. For those individuals without eyesight, screen reading software, special talking devices, and Braille devices enable independent utilization of computers, mobile phones, and other electronic devices.
Similar to this, those who have bad vision can view letters, photos, and other items without straining or fighting with their residual eyesight. By using software for screen magnification and gadgets, they easily magnify what they're looking at and see it better.
This constantly developing technology, also referred to as assistive or adaptive technology, has eliminated numerous obstacles to access for those who are blind or visually impaired. I know it helped me write my book Vision Dreams, A Parable.

Technology for the Visually Impaired Offers Great Independence
In addition to helping us complete daily duties at home and at work, assistive technology makes it possible for those who are blind or visually impaired to live more independently. With specific standalone devices made for persons with low or no vision, we can now do so much more than just read the mail. We can record essential information, tune in to audiobooks, receive step-by-step walking directions to destinations that are unfamiliar, and much more.
Those with visual impairment or blindness can also live independent and healthy lives with the aid of gadgets. Blood pressure and blood glucose monitors, talking watches, scales, and thermometers are devices that offer great help.
Accessible Technology Has Made Living With a Disability Better
When it comes to learning how technology helps visually impaired people, our smartphones can provide great insight into the matter. Now, say what you want about our society being in a dystopian novel about technology, but the invention of smartphones did a huge thing for individuals like me.
The way that those who are blind or visually impaired interact with technology has been completely transformed by cell phones and tablets. We are able to utilize these gadgets independently thanks to software that reads screens and magnifies them, much like what is seen in computers.
But what makes smartphones and tablets special is that they can do many of the things that separate devices and software used to be able to do because of apps. Many of the tasks that once required specialized software or equipment are now on anyone's iPhone or iPad and can simply function on their own.
If you ever want to learn how technology aids folks who are blind or visually impaired, then you can just take a look at your phone. The accessibility settings and options found in them also provide additional aid for everybody.

Share What You Now Understand About How Technology Helps Visually Impaired People
This is merely a succinct summary of how mainstream and assistive technologies have enhanced and benefited those of us who are visually impaired. Given the wide variety of brands and varieties of these technologies, it is nearly hard for us to address this subject in a single piece.
Many doors have been opened, and many barriers have been removed thanks to assistive technology. I am eager to see what more it may do for us all in the future.
